Hello Friends, welcome to 2017!
I always set objectives in the new year to motivate myself and to encourage myself to achieve them. I tend to review my progress against these goals on my birthday, at half year and at the year end.
My goal rule is that goals must be:
Specific – This is the what
Measurable – This is the how much
Achievable – This is to keep me motivated
Realistic and – This is to ensure I have control over the outcome
Timely – This is the by when
My goals tend to be more focussed on work and personal goals than on family goals because I am so lucky to have a healthy lovely family and a partner who is supportive loving and encouraging.
My work goals tend to be around increasing my expertise and knowledge, building up my soft skills and seizing opportunities for promotion.
Now regardless of setting specific goals for the year, one doesn’t want to be so inflexible that if an unforeseen opportunity to either do something different or tackle a new challenge comes along one cannot change or adapt to do this, which is why my goals tend to be on skin and wellness goals, expertise and knowledge as well as interpersonal and people skills which should prepare me for good health, improved external relationships and the ability to take advantage of work opportunities.
My skincare and wellness goals for 2017 are:
Improving my skin by taking better care of it through better skincare, getting healthier and fitter by improving my diet. Specific
Revamp my skincare routine by updating my skincare products, including new steps to my daily skincare regimen and being consistent in this. Specific
Eating at least 3 portions of fruit and vegetables a day and not eating after 6pm to enable my body to shut down easier to repair my skin overnight. Measurable, Achievable and Realistic
Drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Measurable, Achievable and Realistic
As I undertake my check-ins on my birthday, at mid year and year end, this includes the Timely aspect of my goals.
My personal goals for 2017 are:
Cook two meals a week once the kitchen is completed and share one video a month of the process, recipes and results on my YouTube channel.
Build my YouTube viewership and subscriber base by consistently uploading 2 videos a week, one on Tuesday and the other on Thursday.
Go out for a minimum of 2 family outings a month to build even more new and exciting memories.
Learn to edit my videos better on iMovie for YouTube
My work goals for 2017 are:
Work on my communication skills to improve my ability to influence and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes for myself, my colleagues and stakeholders
Build my professional network by seeking further opportunities to work more collaboratively with my stakeholders and colleagues.
Coaching and developing the skills of my direct reports, by creating an open and supportive environment to encourage them to reach their own personal work goals.
Focus less on communicating project details and providing a succinct and clear overview of problems and solutions.
My home front 2017 goal is to:
Do up the kitchen up without getting into debt with a primary focus on saving first before buying and putting quality above quantity.
As you will see from the above, I tend to focus on things I have the power to influence. If not one could be on a hiding to nothing. An example will be if I set a goal of gaining 50,000 YouTube subscribers by the end of 2017, I can’t influence that. However, what I can influence is my consistency in posting videos on YouTube and the idea is this will then build into something bigger which in turn grows my channel.
So try setting achievable goals within your influence this year and we can update and checkin on our mid year and end of year reviews together.
Have a wondrous and fantastic 2017.
